Red-footed Falcon - Vange Marsh 14th May 2016

What a belting bird this was, not just because I found it but because it was just such a fantastic thing to watch, and what a looker.

I found this bird whilst out at Vange Marsh photographing Black-winged Stilts. It went on to perform for the crowds for the rest of the day and the following morning before it was seen departing to the south. I then relocated it briefly at Bowers Marsh where it sat momentarily on the 'shrike' bush. It was then later refound a few dys later at the west end of Bowers Marsh when I was out of the country.

Overall I have to say that this was one my most favourite individual birds I have seen in the UK let alone found and despite at times being difficult to photograph, light was either overcast and grim or bright sunlight with heat haze. It was a long awaited addition to many local birders SOG lists whilst it was my second, following one I found at Barling Pits way back in the early 90's.
