The Galapagos : September 2007 (part 1)

Way back in September 2007, is it really that long ago, the wife and I embarked on a mini adventure taking in parts of Peru (Lima, Cusco and Machu Pichu), Ecuador (The Amazon Basin at Selva Verde, Antisana and San Isidro) and a 8 day cruise around the Galapagos. These couple of pages cover the Galapagos element of the trip. It was peak breeding season and most island endemics were seen except for one of the island endemic mockingbirds, it was seen during the trip by others but due to an accident on board the boat I was unable to get out of my bunk for the day so coudn't get on deck to see it.

However we had multiple encounters with many target birds such as Waved Albatrosses, Swallow-tailed and Lavaa Gulls, Lava Heron, tool weilding Galapagos Finch's, Galapagos Doves, Sea Lions, Bryde's Whales, Giant Tortoises, Land and Marine Iguana's, Galapagos Penguins, Flightless Cormorants, Sea Turtles and so on.

This was a bucket list destination, not one that was going go provide me with a long list of birds but one of quality. Each of the islands were visited and each one was uniquely different and a definately highlight of my wildlife watching experiences.

The following are randomly selected images which highlight some of the spectacle of this unique destination.
