Magnolia Warbler - The sparkling Pond Jumper

What else can be said other than Fair Isle I love you.

The evening of 23rd September 2012 will forever be remembered by those few birders that were present on the magic isle that day.

This, the second Magnolia Warbler for the UK and the first since September 1981 was found on the west cliffs at Lerness, which is now affectionally known as Moss Geo, after Jason Moss the birds finder.

I was typically about as far away from the bird as one could be on Fair Isle as I got the news when I was at the Skadan at the southern end of the island. The result was a mad scramble to the north west as there was very little light left in the day. Luckily the bird was still present and the below shots are what I could muster in between gulps of air after my knackering run across the moors and hills.

An absolute stunning bird which didn;t even factor as a 1 day wonder as it was only available for a few hours before dark and had departed overnight.

This starts the listing here of big bang birds, those that I have personally got the biggest hit out of.
