Eastern Australia : November 2008 - part 1

Originally I had been on a planned trip to Sichuan and Tibet for the spring but due to a combination of Earthquak and civil unrest the trip had to be cancelled so I was left looking at alternatives. Several destinations were considered but I eventually decided on Australia, being a 'continent' I had not previously visited.

Overall the trip did not ring the right bell with me and this is probably largely due to the fact it wasn't the place I really wanted to do and was my emergency back up plan.

Whilst it wasn't trip I wanted I did have some incredible birding experiences with my favourite birding being in the outback at Georgetown and the dry habitats in New South Wales. This penchant for 'dry' country birding is mirrored by my love of birding southern Israel.

Overall amazing experiences came in the form of the many mammals that were seen, 'Roo's, Wallabies, Platypus and so on, to the wader extravaganzer at Cairns Esplanade to the Great Barrier Reef.

As time has gone on I have tended to lose the 'not liked birding trip' to one that was 'that was actually pretty damn good' and the following are some of the many highlights, just a snippet of the many images taken.
