October 2011, well autumn 2011, was a classic for Scilly with many great birds being found. This Upland Sandpiper was in fields at the north end of the island near Maypole. It was initially a showy birds, when it wasn't in the ploughed furrows, but after a few days it had a tendancy to move to out of bounds fields thus out of sight.
Always great birds to see with this the last of those that I have seen really well, the bird that Will Miles and I saw as a fly over on Fair Isle in 2015 was just that, a fly over.
The following are a selection of the best photos from the day the bird was found.
