Collared Pratincole - Fair Isle 14th - 18th May 2017

Wow. what a great bird. This was found in the morning of the day I arrived on the island but I had to wait till 6pm before I could have a chance to get to see it. It showed superbly in perfect conditions with only myself and Ranger 'Dody' watching it.

It was such a great bird thata I visited it every day of it's stay on the island and I finally saw it for the last time hawking over the southern end of the island.

I've seen plenty of Collared Pratincoles abroad, some very well, but this one was the nuts and probably in no small part due to it's location at Easter Lother where it would often hawk insects over the towering sea cliffs, made a change to fish ponds or salt pans in the Middle East.

The best pratincole experience I've ever had.
