North Kent Caspian Gulls

With the demise of my local landfill getting Caspian Gulls locally has been nigh on impossible so today I decided to go just across the Thames Crossing to North Kent and search for Caspian Gulls there. I started at Erith Pier and ended up getting two 1st winters a bit up river from the pier itself. Neither were particularly co-operative though the first bird did eventually do a fly by but it spent most of its time sat out on the large yellow anchor bouy's.

After meeting up with Richard, Dante and Andrew I joined them in a visit to Thamesmead where two more first winter Caspian Gulls were seen and both were much more obliging.

Despite the increasing occurance of this species in the UK, and the fact I've seen several hundred, it is still exciting to get great views of such superb looking gulls. With Thamesmead being on fire for Casps I will definately be making a return visit.
